Tips for walking tours

The summer sun will entice you to visit the allergy-free, high-altitude locations of the Nockberge.  The National Park is just crying out to be explored!  Its unique flora and fauna, the geological highlights such as the “Rote Burg” (red mountain) and rustic alpine huts all invite you to get to know them better.  Here you will see a shy roe deer passing quickly by, there you will hear a marmot whistling, and again and again the calls of many different species of birds will sound out.  In autumn you can escape the seas of fog here and enjoy the sun’s rays.

Comfortable walking tours for families or real challenges for the skilled hikers – the following pages will give you an overview of the most fabulous walking tours.

Tips

Preparation: adequate preparation with fitness and stretching exercises and a thorough planning of your route will get you feeling glad inside even before you have started!
Make sure you keep an eye on the weather conditions!

Clothing: make sure you have good kit, with numerous layers in the “onion-system”.  Remember to take a jacket, sturdy shoes, sun-cream, a rucksack and enough to drink.

Signposting: the hiking trails in the Nockberge are extremely well signposted.

Emergency phone numbers: in the Nockberge Biosphere Reserve an alpine emergency is not very likely but you never know.
Alpine emergency call: 140
Ambulance: 144
Euro emergency call: 112
If there is no mobile-phone reception: dial 112 prior to entering the pin code; if necessary try again from another location.
